School Refurbishment Program, a CSR initiative under L&T Realty Mumbai

The objective of this program was to fill the necessary gaps in the educational infrastructure of the schools, promote digital education among all the students & teachers and to promote sanitation & hygiene and its importance among all the students, teachers, parents & various stakeholders. This program was implemented in over 5 schools in the Mumbai city.

Sewage Cure consulting for school

Avasara Academy is a girls’ school providing schooling to the girls from underprivileged families. The school is being designed by a visionary architect Samuel Barclay of Case Design. ESF is involved in providing a decentralised treatment system to the residential school.

Urban Community Sanitation Program

Conduction of rapid assessment and gap analysis to assist in the formation of city sanitation force task in Newasa and Shevgaon. This includes awareness generation and capacity building of the communities and schools on water and sanitation, implementation/construction of toilets blocks. The proposed toilets to be constructed in both the cities are around 4000 in number. The program envisions itself towards being a key contributing factor in completion of Open Defecation Free (ODF) 2018 goals under Swachh Maharashtra Abhiyan (SMA-Urban).

The project involves a hardware component, including restoration/construction of toilets and a software component, where the school officials and students are trained about proper utilization of the sanitation system

Mission Sunehra Kal

To support the community to achieve an ODF status by not only providing the toilets but also trainings them to use, operate and maintain the provided sanitation facilities. The program included construction of individual household toilets as well as ESF’s school sanitation service, in villages and schools surrounding MIDC.

Eco-village development- villages from Pune and Nashik

To collect the data, analyse and prepare a eco village development plans four villages from the cities of Pune and Nashik. These plans are envisioned to be stepping stones for the villages to develop their infrastructure in the coming years.

Natural water systems and treatment technologies to cope with water shortages in urbanized areas in India (NaWaTech)

Research and Innovation as well as implementation of pilot and full scale natural waste water treatment systems at select locations

Design and implementation of UDDT with western pan in Zambia

Construction of an ecological sanitation facility attached to a community center in the Kapila village in Zambia. The project was implemented together with Dr. Banubhai Nanavati College of Architecture (BNCA) Pune.

Guts for Change

5 young cyclists from Germany, cycled all the way to India to raise money for building UDDTs in the Darewadi hamlet near Pune. Along with the construction of UDDTs, ESF conducted events such as cycle rallies, menstrual hygiene workshops and tree plantations.

National school sanitation initiative (NSSI)

The National School Sanitation Initiative (NSSI) was launched in April 2011 by the Ministry of Urban Development (MoUD), Ministry of Human Resource Development (MoHRD), Central Board of Secondary Examination (CBSE) and GIZ to effectuate a quantifiable achievement in sanitation practices in the country. Under this initiative ESF provided its school sanitation service in the cities of Delhi, Shimla, Vasai Virar, Raipur and Tirupati.

ACCESSanitation: Accelerating city to city exchange for sustainable sanitation

Preparation of city sanitation plans (CSP) along with pilot scale implementations of UDDTs or Sewage Cure components for Vikarabad, Vasai Virar, Rajahmundry, Hosakote cities. This project was implemented with together with ICLEI South Asia.
